It's been a dramatic 2016 for many, and the motorsport world is no exception. Here are the ten most-read stories across our websites this year.

1. Emmerdale's Kelvin Fletcher set for BTCC debut

With an appeal that transcended motorsport, it's no surprise that Emmerdale favourite Kelvin Fletcher's British Touring Car Championship debut at Brands Hatch was eagerly awaited and our exclusive interview with Kelvin was the most-viewed story of the year. It was a tough year for the 32-year-old, but one from which he gained a great deal of satisfaction.

2. 2017 MCE BSB provisional calendar announced

Released just before the final rounds of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship season at Brands Hatch and with excitement for the Final Showdown reaching fever pitch, it's no surprise that the 2017 calendar announcement was a hit with fans.

3. 2017 BTCC calendar announced with four MSV events

The BTCC's 2017 calendar was released in the immediate aftermath of the Oulton Park event with over half of the season remaining, however tin top followers couldn't wait to get the following years' dates in their diaries.

4. Vauxhall set for BTCC return in 2017 with Power Maxed Racing

One of the biggest surprises of the winter so far is the long-awaited return of Vauxhall to the BTCC after an absence of seven seasons. The news was warmly-received and with Tom Chilton also returning to head-up their campaign, they'll be a popular addition to the grid in 2017.

5. MSV launches search for best amateur photo of 2016

Our recently-awarded amateur photo of the year competition received a huge number of superb entries, and the lucky winner will be venturing trackside at next year's American SpeedFest V at Brands Hatch.

6. VW fans invited to Oulton Park celebration

The debut of Dubworth at Oulton Park was one of the Cheshire track's highlights this year, with a mixture of motor racing and off-track entertainment with a strong Volkswagen theme. VW owners and fans delighted in the news when it broke back in January.

7. Join Olympic hero Jason Kenny on track at Brands Hatch

It's the year in which Jason Kenny matched Sir Chris Hoy's record of six Olympic Gold Medals to stand alongside his former cycling team-mate as Britain's most successful Olympian - and married our most successful female Olympian, Laura Trott. But just before tying the knot, the 28-year-old paid two visits to Brands Hatch, racing a Radical just days after returning from Rio then competing in the Revolve 24 Hour cycle race - and raising its profile in the process.

8. Brands Hatch launches Festival Italia event

Joining the hugely successful American SpeedFest in Brands Hatch's festival line-up, Festival Italia was announced in February. The response to the news resulted in a highly-popular day in August packed with Italian cars, food and culture.

9. Free spectator entry to Oulton Park MCE BSB test

Even after the opening rounds of the 2016 MCE BSB season, fans were still desperate for two-wheeled action, so a chance to see the riders at Oulton Park ahead of the May Bank Holiday event was too much to pass up. Better still, entry to the test was free of charge!

10. Shedden is champion by two points as Jackson wins BTCC finale

The BTCC finale had an unprecedented eight title contenders, five of which had a strong chance of success. By the final race of the season, three of them were still able to lift the title, with championship leader Sam Tordoff and reigning champion Gordon Shedden in the pound seats. Shedden had the momentum, but had to overtake his rival to win, which he did to claim his third title and seal his place amongst the Touring Car greats.
